Tilly the Tortie

Tilly the Tortie’s spirited outlook shows scars are only skin deep!

If you follow the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) at all on social media, you probably know Tilly, the feisty feline who has come to be very loved by our team and volunteers. But what you may not remember is how Tilly came to HSNEGA.

It should have been a typical spay surgery, but when tiny Tilly, only 8-weeks-old at the time, was on the table, our vet noticed a big problem:  A large wound on the side of her face. After examining further, the wound appeared to be the result of a serious burn that spread over her entire cheek, upper lip, and the edge of her lower eyelid.

We knew Tilly wouldn’t receive the care she needed without help, so HSNEGA offered to take her in so she could receive immediate, round-the-clock care for her wound. Our team set up a special “cat condo” in our Administration offices to keep an eye on Tilly and medicate her throughout the day.

Tilly’s face healed slowly, but from the start, she was an excellent patient and kept everyone entertained with her antics. After a few months, she was ready to be adopted, but when taking her photo for the website, we noticed her eye looked cloudy. An exam revealed Tilly had scratched her injured eye which had led to a severe eye infection.

Round-the-clock care started yet again with several different antibiotics, and more months passed as Tilly healed for a second time. But, again, Tilly never lost her love of life, and now she is ready for her new home!

Without you, our generous supporters, Tilly would not have had this second chance. Your gifts not only save lives, they change lives. Your support means rescues have all the care they need to heal and all the time they need to find a home without risk of being euthanized. Thank you for that gift.
