Lexis Happy Tail

Lexi and her 11 puppies

Lexi was discarded like trash by her family, left to wander the streets alone in a busy neighborhood. For months, neighbors watched Lexi wandering on her own, scavenging for food, and then they noticed something that broke their hearts: Lexi was pregnant.

A few days after a family took her in off the streets, Lexi delivered THIRTEEN puppies! Overwhelmed they reached out for help. One of HSNEGA’s PAWesome foster families provided a temporary home for Lexi and her puppies. Sadly, two of Lexis’s babies did not make it through all the stress.

It became very apparent that the stress of all of the moving and trying to protect her puppies was severely escalating Lexi’s fear aggression. After consulting with Angie Woods, a professional behaviorist at U.S. Canine, we decided to move Lexi and her puppies back to HSNEGA before she hurt herself, her babies, or her foster family.

Lexi and her puppies were able to settle into a quiet, private room at HSNEGA. But it seemed Lexi could not catch a break. It was discovered that Lexi was “high” heartworm positive meaning, she had a very SEVERE case of heartworms that required prolonged treatment. After seven long months of heartworm treatment, Lexi was ready to find her forever home.

To help this momma find her forever home, Lexi was part of the 12 Days of Dogmas adoption special. Twix’s adopter (Twix is one of Lexi’s puppies) saw the 12 Days of Dogmas adoption special on Instagram and immediately knew they needed to reunite Lexi with her son AND give her the forever home she’s always dreamed of.

“Lexi is doing great. She follows the girls everywhere they go. I absolutely love her.” ~ Lexi’s Adopter

Thank you to everyone who gave to Lexi and her puppies’ care and to everyone who supported Lexi through her long and grueling heartworm treatment. You created 12 happy endings!
