Meet my friend Nicholas. He is a 3-year-old Retriever, Shepherd mix. Nic is a smart boy, he walks well on a leash and he knows how to lay down and sit. I never have a bad day when I’m with this fella. He L.O.V.E.S. to play chase, whether it’s with you or another four-legged friend, he’s always down for a good run around the yard. Which also makes him an excellent jogging partner!
He’s a little shy at first, unsure of new people but once he gets to know you he’s a big puddle of belly rubs and snuggles. Nic is a happy energetic dog who needs an active family, although preferably no children. Other dogs are welcome! He’s a playgroup rockstar and enjoys playing with his rescue pals here at HSNEGA. He wouldn’t mind a meet and greet, visitors with two legs or four are welcome.
Nicholas came to HSNEGA from another rescue to give him the best chance at finding a new home. Every dog deserves that. He was out of time and jolly St. Nic needed a second chance. So, we gladly took him in! We always like to help out fellow shelters when we can.
So, while we may not know his backstory, we do know that he’s a loving boy who just needs an understanding family. I fully believe 100% if, given time, dedication, and proper training, Nic can be the best good boy possible. All he needs is a little direction. Kind of like how Rudolph helps show Santa Paws the way.
I know in my heart he’s a very loving dog who has so much to give. He just needs someone to let him have that opportunity to shine. There’s never a dull moment with him. He makes me laugh and keeps me on my toes. Nic is always up for adventure, and also knows when it’s time to chill out. He’s the best of both worlds.
This handsome boy loves chew toys (preferably the edible kind). Puparoni dog treats are his favorite reward for a job well done. He’s also not shy around the pool and enjoys the water!
If you were to come and meet him he would be in his kennel barking, but only because he doesn’t know you yet! If someone were to ask to see him outside of those four walls, they’d then see a completely different dog. They would see the smart, goofy boy I know.
Someone said once not to judge a book by its cover. You gotta look inside to know whether or not you’ll actually like it. You might be surprised. I like to say it’s the same thing with most dogs in a shelter environment, they’re one way in those kennels and completely different when they get a chance to breathe.
I hope someone does that for him. I told him all good girls and boys in the shelter get a visit from Santa Paws and get to make a special wish. Nicholas’ wish is to find a home with a big warm bed, a friend to play with, and a family that loves him.
Nicholas has left a lasting impression on me. Those soulful eyes and serious, yet not so serious, demeanor that he carries with him. There’s not another one out there like him. Nic is one of a kind and any family would be lucky to have him in their home.
