About Our Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic
The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia opened its Spay/Neuter Clinic in May 2005. Since that time we have sterilized 15,000 animals. Even though our Spay/Neuter staff and volunteers are proud of this accomplishment, we feel we have only started scratching the surface on the pet over-population problem in Northeast Georgia.
In Georgia, it is law that every adopted animal must be spayed or neutered in order to reduce the overpopulation of dogs and cats, and to improve the overall health of the animal.
Dogs and cats have no psychological sex drive and do not feel any need to reproduce. They are happier when spayed or neutered, and become a more content family member when the roaming and over-aggressiveness that is often linked to sex drive is removed. Neutered pets are also calmer and more affectionate.
As an owner of a spayed or neutered pet, you’ll notice other benefits such as:
- A healthier pet. Spayed or neutered animals are less likely to develop certain cancers or be injured in fights with other animals.
- Decreased chance of your dog biting a person (2 – 3 times less likely).
- No staining or spraying.
- No need to fight off males when the female is in season.
- No need to raise a litter of puppies or kittens for six weeks, then advertise to find homes for them – a process that requires a great deal of time, effort, and money. Also, you won’t suffer the heartbreak if some or all of the puppies or kittens don’t find homes.
- Not adding to the pet population explosion, which means fewer homeless animals.
