The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) has announced that the 21th annual Mutt Strut 5K & 1 Mile Family Fun Walk will be held Sunday, April 15, 2012. The annual event is a fundraising events for the HSNEGA with all proceeds benefit the shelter's rescue and adoption programs as well as its efforts to reduce pet overpopulation and suffering.

“The Mutt Strut has been a great draw for runners and walkers alike for many years,” says Rick Aiken, HSNEGA president. “We are always very appreciative of the community’s support of this event.”

For 2012, the 5K will take place at the American Legion Post, located at 2342 Riverside Drive, Gainesville. The event also includes a 1 Mile Family Fun Walk, where participants can bring their dogs to walk with them as long as they are vaccinated, leashed, non-aggressive, and in good physical condition.

Awards for the 5K will be given to the Overall Male/Female and Overall Masters Male/Female. Age group awards will be given three deep in standard age groups from 10 and under to 75 and over. The 5K is part of the Run and See Georgia Grand Prix Series,the Black Bag Race Series, and finish line and results provided by Classic Race Services.

Registration for the event begins at 1:30 p.m. with the 1 Mile Walk starting at 2 p.m. and the 5K beginning at 2:30 p.m. Pre-registration is $20 per person (until Friday, April 6); day of the race registration is $25 per person. NEW THIS YEAR: Registraion for teams of 4 is available for only $65. Team registration is only available during pre-registration.
