The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) has announced it will be helping cat owners “Beat the Heat” by offering a spay-neuter surgery special specifically for cats during March 2011.
The regular surgery fee for male and female cats is $60 each; during March, the fee will be two cats for $100. While the cats do not have to be from the same household, the appointments do have to be made for the same day. Appointments for “Beat the Heat” are available now on a first-come basis by calling HSNEGA at 770-532-6617.
“Spring is the start of feline mating season, and our goal is to try to spay or neuter as many unaltered cats as possible during the month of March,” says Rick Aiken, HSNEGA President. “We hope by offering this special, we can encourage people to have their unaltered felines spayed or neutered to help reduce the number of unwanted kittens we and other area shelters take in this year.”
Aiken adds that many cat owners have more than one feline, so he hopes this special will be an incentive for those owners who have not had their cats altered.
“Even for people who have inside cats, it’s so important to have them spayed or neutered,” Aiken says. “It just takes your cat going outside once, and you can wind up with a litter of kittens. In fact, one unspayed female cat and her kittens can produce 300,000+ offspring over seven years.”
HSNEGA’s Spay-Neuter Center offers high-quality, affordable surgery by appointment for public pet owners throughout northeast Georgia. Costs are $60 for female dogs under 75 lbs., female cats, male cats and male dogs; female dogs over 75 lbs. are $80. The Center is able to accept all sizes and breeds; however, the animals must be at least 2 pounds and/or 8 weeks old in order to have surgery.
Pet owners also can request additional services for their pets at the time of surgery including vaccinations, nail trims, heartworm testing, feline combo testing, and microchipping. These low-cost services are offered for additional fees and are not included in the Beat the Heat special.
HSNEGA’s Spay-Neuter Center is funded in part by surgery fees, but also is subsidized by corporate grants and donations. To learn more about the Spay-Neuter Center, please contact HSNEGA at 770-532-6617 or visit www.hsnega.org.
