HSNEGA Requests Food Donations

***UPDATED 6.13.11***
Great News! HSNEGA was informed this morning that we are going to be receiving donations from Purina again sooner than expected. And, because of the tremendously generous outpouring of support over the past week, HSNEGA has sufficient food for our animals until Purina donations start again!

THANK YOU
to everyone who donated and helped spread the word about our need. We were overwhelmed with everyone's generosity and cannot even begin to express our gratitude. It is so rewarding to know we live in such a giving community which cares about its companion animals!

If you would still like to donate to help our animals, HSNEGA welcomes donations to help cover the costs of other needed care such as providing spay-neuter surgery for each animal before it is adopted; providing vaccines and testing before adoption; and providing daily care and exercise for our animals as they await their forever homes. Again, thank you for your consideration and support of our shelter....we could not fulfill our mission without your help!

The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) is requesting donations of dry pet food, and/or monetary donations to purchase food, in anticipation of a summer shortage at the shelter.

HSNEGA receives the bulk of our food from Purina through their shelter donation program. This supply is supplemented by occasional donations from the public and businesses; however, approximately 3 weeks ago, Purina notified its shelter partners that they would be temporarily diverting their food donations to areas of the U.S. recently hit by tornadoes and flooding to assist families, pets and shelters in those areas.

While HSNEGA is glad those in need are receiving assistance, we anticipate this diversion creating a shortage of food at our shelter for the next 2-3 months. Unfortunately, when the announcement was made, HSNEGA was near the end of our most recent supply from Purina, as well.

Typically, HSNEGA provides care for 200-225 animals on a daily basis, which requires approximately 30 pounds of cat/kitten food, 50 pounds of puppy food, and 100 pounds of adult dog food per day. As a non-profit, non-government associated organization, HSNEGA relies on donations to support our services and care for the homeless animals we rescue. While we can purchase food if needed, those monies would be taken from other community services we provide such as our low-cost spay-neuter center and wellness services.

If you would like to help HSNEGA during this time, you can do so in one of the following ways:
  • Donate bags of cat, kitten, puppy and/or adult dog food. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter during business hours. We ask that in-kind donations be DRY Purina food (since that is what our animals are used to eating), however, all in-kind donations are appreciated.
  • Make a monetary donation for food purchase through this Website by clicking the "Donate Today" tab. Your online donation will be processed through PayPal easily and securely. If you wish to let us know your donation is for food, you can follow your donation with an email to Julie Edwards at julieedwards@hsnega.org and we will make sure it is credited appropriately.
  • Make a monetary donation by mailing a check or money order to: HSNEGA, 845 West Ridge Road, Gainesville, GA, 30501. Please be sure to include a note that your donation is for food purchase.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and helping the homeless animals in our care! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Julie Edwards at 770-532-6617 or julieedwards@hsnega.org.
