DOG & PUPPY "BLACKOUT" SPECIAL
The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) will be offering special adoption fees for all black dogs and puppies until Sunday, Nov. 14. Typically $100 per animal, the adoption fee for black adult dogs (6 months and older) will be $50 per dog, and for black puppies (6 months and younger) will be $75.
“Traditionally, black canines are much harder to adopt than other dogs, and it’s an occurrence that most shelters experience,” says Rick Aiken, President of HSNEGA. “Some of the speculation is that black animals are harder to photograph, and therefore harder to view on shelter websites, or that they are too ‘common’ looking and people pass them by.”
Aiken says that because black canines are more challenging to place in new homes, HSNEGA hopes offering a special adoption fee for black adult dogs will help find more animals forever homes.
“We are calling it a ‘Blackout’ because our goal is too get all our black dogs and puppies out of the shelter and into new homes,” Aiken says.
All animals included in the Blackout Adoption Special have special signs hanging on their kennels to note their inclusion and reduced adoption fee. All adoptable animals at HSNEGA are current on their vaccinations, fecal tested/dewormed, heartworm tested, are up-to-date on heartworm and flea/tick preventative, health-checked, and, most importantly, spayed or neutered.
The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia is open for adoptions Mon.-Sat. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Check out the adoption section of the Website to see all the animals available for adoption, or for more information, please contact HSNEGA at 770-532-6617.
