The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) has announced it is now accepting submissions for its 4thAnnual “Be Kind to Animals Week” Youth Art Contest. Submissions are accepted from school-age children and young adults from Kindergarten through Grade 12.
With an average of 170 submissions from northeast Georgia and metro Atlanta, HSNEGA hopes to attract young artist of all ages to enter. HSNEGA annually sponsors the art contest to highlight Be Kind to Animals Week, which will be May 1-7 in 2011.
“Teaching children and young adults to care about animals actually educates them on caring about all livings things, from animals and people to the environment,” explains Kelley Uber, director of Education & Volunteer Development for HSNEGA. “The art contest is a fun way for participants to visualize what being kind to animals means to them.”
For 2011, HSNEGA will be partnering with the Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville to promote the art contest, with the “Best in Show” first place winner receiving a free week at the Quinlan’s Pop Art 2011 summer art camp, to be held June and July.
"Having just opened our own Youth Art Month exhibition at the Quinlan this month, I can say that it is the young artitsts that often have the most inventive works of art. Adding a theme as important as Be Kind to Animals is sure to inspire some compellig pieces," says Amanda Kroll McClure, executive director for the Quinlan.
Art contest finalists will be recognized at a reception to be held Friday, May 13, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Elks Club in Gainesville, preceding HSNEGA’s annual Art with Heart fundraiser. Entries will be judged in four categories with awards given three deep, and an overall “Best in Show” chosen from among the finalists.
Artwork submissions must be received at HSNEGA by 5 p.m. April 18, 2011. There is no fee to enter the contest, and entry forms, which include submission rules and details, are available at the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia or download the form below.
